In October i got booked to DJ on New Years Eve, but the promoters didn't get the venue in the end so gig was cancelled. Managed to get another gig on NYE at a House party organized by 2 people but one of the people (who wasnt the one that contacted me about the gig) just told me they didn't know about me DJing until yesterday and said she'd booked someone else....

This kinda ruins my plans so what should I do to prevent this or at least make sure all is not lost if the promoters flop in future gigs?

I think you should draw up a contract yourself or get one from someone. In a book called "How to DJ" there is a sample DJ Contract in the back of this book.

It basically is an agreement between you, the DJ and the organizer or who ever pays you or asks you to perform. It further states that you the artiste agrees to appear at the event for a X amount. The amount payable to you must be paid in advance on the date shown or they must agree to pay you no later than date shown. It also says that in the event the organizer decide to cancel the event then they still have to pay you, if not then you take them to court. May not bring you in their good books but then again they should be fair towards you as well.

Just take it like a man and forget about it. Move on. Whats wrong with you? Parties get cancelled all the time. You're obviously not of sufficient gravitas at the moment to be amongst the surviving DJs when a cull happens because of a party cancellation or relocation. Why didn't you get to know the girl who's co-promoting the house party. She's half of the decision making process and being a woman, they usually get to have the last word. You must realise that by now in life! You showed too little espect imo.
You made some fundemental errors here. Analyse them over the next few weeks and try not to repeat them again. And don't forget Rule Number 1. If there are two euqal promoters working together to throw a party, make sure you familarise yorself with both. Espeacially if one's a woman.
