I'm looking to buy a midi controller. Does anyone have any advice on them? Do you use one? Is it good?

what software are you planning to use it with?

The Vestax ones are very well made, solid bits of kit... not the cheapest though.

I have a VCM-100 which is nice and compact, although it could do with a few more knobs on it for FX and so on, and the rotary line faders aren't to everyone's taste depending on how/what you mix, but it's a nice portable bit of kit. If all you're doing is mixing tracks and you don't need jog wheels it's solid. VCI-100 has more knobs, jog wheels and normal line faders, it ain't small though. They're also about to put out a new one with no jog wheels but even more knobs aimed at people who like to use 4 decks in Traktor.
There's another one called the VCM-600 which is aimed at Ableton people which looks pretty tasty.

I'm not sure what software, I have virtual dj on my mac but as with midi controllers I haven't got much of an idea which is better. For the midi controller I'm looking for something as close to a conventional club set up e.g jog wheels, sliding pitch controller, pioneer type mixer interface.

There are a lot of kits out on the market now, there are some nice pieces of kit compared to few years ago. Have a look at the M-Audio Torq Xponent
