I think ideally at some point i'd like to get guru for my drums. It like a sequencer within a sequencer and handles drums a lot better. My mate has it and i had a proper look on the weekend and it's so much more flexible than anything cubase has to offer. the major DAW's all seems to have some sort of method for handling drums in a more intuitive way so I'm hoping the next version of cubase has something to match. Sonar has beatscape and cyclone, ableton has drum racks and logic has it's own built in one - surely cubase needs to keep up with the pack?

Have you had a look at Native Instruments Battery?

It was reccommended to me a while back but I must admit to never getting around to have a play with it though it comes highly reccommended.

i have battery 2 (obtained through dubious means so I have none of the content), but it doesn't really inspire me. It a great tool to an area that cubase is sorely lacking, but I still think something like guru where you can load up patterns and sequence would be cool.

I saw this free drum thingy the other day which looked cool. Also have you got the latest computer music? There's a wicked free plug in from sugarbytes effectrix.

Check out some of our new tunes: HERE

I downloaded this the other day but haven't installed it yet.

Guru does look interesting and apprently it has a very friendly user interface.

However I have noticed quite a few people mention that the sound quality is not quite as good as battery.

Ya don't get me wrong the options are there in Cubase and it's not a critism as such, I just they could be implemnted to be a lot more user friendly. For one you should have to change your tool bar to extend and draw.. a simple float the curser over the edge of the note allowing you to then extend the note saves mountains of time.

I slowly getting more familiar with the programme and the short cuts so in a few months time I will moan less..

However this drum map in the piano roll sounds interesting, wheres the option for it??

You don't need to change the 'tool bar' if you don't want to - You can just use the pencil tool to the things you are describing above - draw notes, extend notes and shorten notes.

Hi, Iv been learning cubase for about 2 weeks now, I have some tutorial video's off the web, I have recently purchased an M-Audio Oxygen49 USB MIDI Keyboard.

Iv successfully managed to hook up the keyboard to the laptop, and I have MIDI output using the presets on the keyboard.

Although there are official instructions for this product, they are very unclear for someone who is new to this sort of thing. Youtube although available fail to provide any decent tutorial video's.

What I want to achieve is to learn all the controls on the keyboard and what they do. Also through cubase I want to learn how to assign MIDI Channels through the MIDI controller. I have downloaded various sample packs which include various sounds and instruments, I want to be able to assign these sounds onto the midi channels on the keyboard so I can use them effecivly.

Can anybody help me or point me the direction of some good guides or even better, video's?

EDIT: I have just found the "Enigma - Software Librarian and Editor for M-Audio & Evo MIDI controllers" for the M-Audio Oxygen49 keyboard, is this what I am looking for? is this a seperate piece of software or can it be used in conjuction with Cubase SX3?
