» Back To Love

Label: Head Kandi
Format: 2 x CD
Genre: House

This was the first time I had listened to a Hedkandi album and although I had heard raving reviews from other people, I was somewhat skeptical about the fact that this compilation cd was not mixed and I could not be sure this would not cloud my judgment.

With the title “Back to Love” it was obvious that this was going to be a relaxed, laid back, nostalgic journey.

Commencing with a gorgeous jazz sound “Open your Heart” by Ceybil Jeffries, this really put me in the mood for the chilled out tracks that followed, “Been a Long Time”, The Fob to “Better Days” by Jimi Polo; I closed my eyes and could almost feel the white sands of Ibiza.

The two cd’s cover a wide range of years, but the tunes are tied in together nicely with one major thing in common, soul. Even with the chilled out ambiance, there is no way you could listen to cd 2 without wanting to get up and dance to “Buffalo Stance” by Neneh Cherry, and “Can I Kick It”, by A Tribe Called Guest. For those that were not around when these tunes were gracing the glitter ball lit dance floors every weekend this is your chance to own a slice of music history and for those of you lucky enough to remember tracks from Frankie Knuckles, Sister Sledge and Chanté Moore this is your chance to relish in over 2 hours of memories.

Outstanding collection of tunes, well worth the investment and a slot in every music lovers cd rack or in my case, taking up permanent residency on my mp3 player.

CD2 looks properly heavy! That's some pure toonage from NWA and Tribe as well as classics from Neneh Cherry and Sister Sledge. I remember doing the "running man" to Buffalo Stance at Primary school Blush
