This year see’s the launch of a brand new concept set to unite the world of hard dance, picking key artists from each territory to showcase their hard edge sound including hard trance from Germany, Hardstyle from Holland, Hard Dance from the U.K, Tech Dance from Japan and everything in-between, from every key port of hard dance across the globe!. Set up by two very unique artists; Phil York known worldwide for his uplifting hard trance sound as well as a key player behind the scenes running major UK labels for artists including Lisa Lashes and Kutski as well as his own Tranzlation label, and the voice of Q-Dance radio Fausto. Label boss of Excessive recordings and the most diverse DJ in the hard dance scene playing the biggest hard dance and trance parties around Europe and further a field and the only DJ to play at every single major festival and indoor event in Holland! These two hard dance heroes sat down to give each other a good grilling exclusively for HarderFaster.
Phil York interviews Fausto
Our new concept International Hard Dance Sessions features tracks from artist worldwide where is your favourite place to play and why?
We we’re recently in Finland to kick start the IHDS tour and that my favourite intimate gig this year, the club was totally sold out and turned 200 people away and everyone was going mad on the dance floor! Hope to be back there at some point in 2011!
Your label excessive records has releases some storming tracks this year what are your plans for the label?
I’m very happy with 2 new producers I’ve signed to the label, BRK3 & Jim Justice, these are very exciting producers who are pushing the boundaries of the techy side of hard dance and we will be seeing a lot more from these guys over the next couple of years!
Your show on Q-Dance radio “Fausto’s Crossover is one of the most listened to show’s on the internet, what are your future plans.
We did a great area at Q-Base last year so I would love to host more area’s with the radio show and of course do more live broadcasts from festivals as I love to do live radio as you can connect to your listeners more. I have plans for a new show in the pipeline as well, more will be revealed soon!
Where are you most excited to play on the IHDS world tour?
I’m really looking forward to heading back out to Australia, last time I was over there I played main stage at Defcon One in 2009 and was such a great experience and met lots of new friendly people all of which I cant wait to see again next March!
What are the differences between the Dutch and the U.K crowd?
The Dutch are a lot more critical due to the size of the parties and I think they have been spoilt over the years so only being a good DJ is not enough, you have to have the full production alongside your DJing to really impress these days!
Fausto interviews Phil York
What is your favourite track on the IHDS album?
Its hard to pick one as there are so many great tracks on there but special mentions go to Wragg & Log:one’s ‘Enemies of Earth’, BRK3’s BRK FR33, Luca Antolini’s ‘Universe of Harmony’ and the new Shock:Force ‘Stimulate’. All definitely worth checking out if you’re into your hard European sounds.
How did you pick the artists from each territory to be involved in the album?
I was on the look out for people who represented the sound of their country the best, such as remo-con to represents tech dance from Japan, Activator for Italian Hardstyle and Proteus for some Finish NRG! This way the album could be truly global and represent the international hard dance scene.
How has the album been received so far?
I’m amazed at the response this album has had as its such a simple concept, we were both at the HDE & ADE recently in Amsterdam and we had artists asking to be involved in the follow up before they had even heard the album as they really likes the concept. Pre sales have been great and much better than I would have expected for our 1st album so I think this will be a long running series.
I know you have been doing a lot of Bootek material the past few years as your allias, how come none of this is on the album?
I like to keep Bootek and Phil York separate as they both work in different area’s and times of the night. I have been locked into Bootek more than PY over the past 2 years so it’s nice to give it a short break and concentrate more on the hard trance side of things over the next few months. Don’t worry Bootek isn’t going anywhere just for a few months my focus will be on IHDS and doing a few key Bootek gigs to keep the brand strong.
When you’re not busy on the IHDS what do you like to do?
If I do get any spare time which seems to be a rarity these days I love to take my dog out and about, I just got a Springer Spaniel puppy and she is mental to say the least! Proper good fun! Also I’m bang into 1st person shooter games on xbox like Medal of Honour and Call of Duty so any time I get in evenings is spent on this!
