Shamania is here: 38 hours of psy!

Reported by Psylicious / Submitted 30-07-08 17:54

It’s finally here, right on the horizon! The Shamania 2008 Festival is about to begin. Boasting three stages of music and entertainment, months of planning, hair pulling and dare I say stress is finally coming to an end for the festival in the north shadowed by historic Lancashire scenery and land marks.

With a hefty artillery of DJs and Acts on the main stage including; Hydraglyph, Safi Connection, Eat Static, John Phantasm, Dick Trevor and Cosmosis on the main stage hosted by Sunrise and Kulu
.
There’s also the Alternative Stage powered by Leeds based event Riff Raff which sees ADAM Lab4, Mick Cree aka Dynamic Intervention, Dave The Drummer, Chris Liberator, Ben Fraser and Sol Ray just to name a few, join the mighty Riff Raff residents and friends for one alternative show down, not even the myth and magic of the hill could scare away.

Chilled out vibes can be caught on the Chill Stage by Synchronistic Sounds along with O.V.N.I, Merv (Eat Static) and a whole host of guests who will please and slow the pace nicely.

With refreshments and food a plenty including Mrs. Whitedogs Cafe, stalls and kids stuff, along with work shops, therapies and well, you got to come to experience it and take it all in….

So let’s slam the breaks on, one final time and meet your main stage hosts, from Kulu, Mad Mick and from Sunrise and no stranger to HarderFaster, Ed Tangent. A wealthy combination of knowledge and most of all these guys really know how to throw a party, so imagine the stops they will be pulling out at this years Shamania Festival! Let’s find out.

Welcome to HarderFaster. You must be pleased to see Shamania on the horizon after all the months of planning?

Mick: Yes for sure, it must nearly be a year since Ed and I were asked to organise the main dance tent and stage. I’m getting really excited about Shamania this year. Bring it on!

Ed: It’s been a long time coming, but suddenly it is a week away and every one is getting excited and ready for one of the festivals of the year. The line up is top notch stuff and the music has been programmed just right, fitting every thing together, just the same as our own club nights, but outdoors and over four days.

Mad Mick

You both have tremendous knowledge within the psy trance scene in the North of the UK, both running successful events, Sunrise and Kulu. How did your events come to light and how long have they now been running?

Mick: I first heard psychedelic trance in Goa, in 1996 and was blown away. Back home there was not really any where to hear the music, Cabbage started in 1999 and showed you could bring psy trance back from India and a few months later we started Kulu. Just a bunch of friends providing our own entertainment, Kulu has had some difficult times but we are coming up to our 10th Birthday and still going strong.

Ed: Sunrise started its original form in 1995 as Global Sunrise in Manchester. Now ‘Sunrise’ is run by myself, Tekno Hippie, Fairy Jane and Onney, with Festival Stage Management now part of our regular yearly schedule. We are due to start up after the summer in Birmingham at the Custard Factory on the 13th September with Evolve.

So, this is a great way to amplify your knowledge and skill when you host the main stage at this years Shamania festival, how did this come about?

Mick: It has been great organising the main stage with Ed. Sharing our knowledge of the scene and our contacts, we have been able to capture some great special guests, with a wealth of Northern talent and hope to make it really kick for Shamania this year.

Ed: We had been asked to do this the previous year, but decided to let Kundalini do it. They did a great job but this year we knew that the festival needed what we could offer and so called up our contacts and invited many of our fellow promoters from around the Midlands, Wales and North to join us.

Ed Tangent

How does the main stage differ this year, compared to previous years?

Mick: This is the third Shamania Festival, it grows and gets better each year! This year we have the bonus of an all night entertainment license, a very good sound system and a line up that speaks for it’s self.

Ed: This year we go full on psy party, all night and on Sunday all day where we take full advantage of our 24 hour music licence running our stage 38 hours non stop, so people can dance on through the morning in the summer sun.

With a strong line up consisting of both UK and International acts and DJs, who are you most looking forward to hearing and why?

Mick: I always like Eat Static and looking forward to seeing and hearing Safi Connection who is playing his first gig in the UK for two years here. But my personal favourite is a young man called Andrew, who goes by the name, Hydraglyph; his music just hits the spot for me!

Ed: Do you know I can not say, every one is going to be special! But I am certainly looking forward to Visual Rhythm who are well known dance / stage performers in the dance music industry. Both Tony and Kerry who are Visual Rhythm will be performing with me for the very first time and I know this will be very special!

So are there any additional tricks up your sleeves for the main stage?

Mick: Wait and see!

Ed: Watch me pull out a rabbit from Dick Trevors arse (Ed runs away laughing)! No, seriously though we have some fantastic new 3D décor made by Onney & Co being shown at Shamania for the first time, our very own Yhode from Trance Visuals is making a welcome return co-ordinating the visual projections. Also Flo and Yaz from Floroworld.Com who are coming all the way from Portugal to run their Psychedelic Light show. So as well as your ears, your eyes will be in for full on treat as well.

What is it about the Shamania festival concept you enjoy the most and what can new comers expect?

Mick: We like to think that Shamania has a special atmosphere and I’m sure if you are new to it, you will find the people friendly and very welcoming.

Ed: This is a no bullsh*t, proper Northern gathering, friendly clued up people, fantastic décor, lights, VJs, DJs, Acts and one mighty Opus sound system that will even make the witches on the hill run for cover!

Finally any last words of wisdom from you both?

Mick: Yeah if you have not tried it, give it a try!

Ed: See you on the Hill 1st – 4th Aug! Remember we are selling tickets on line at www.shamania.com tickets will be available for collection on the gate. Also ticket sales on the gate for £70!
