AWsum Southerners take on Kiddfectious Northerners!

Versus events come and go and back to backs are rife but sometimes something special comes along, and this my hard house lover is that something. With two of the scenes biggest hitters getting ready for the match of the year, this could scare the pants off Tyson. We’ll leave the giants to their training however and focus on some of the other key players. Second out, round one!

Checking out the undercard (but of course no less important lineup) you’ll find Kutski and Morgan, Phil Reynolds and Kevin Energy. What to do then with these athletes of dance music? Yes, we couldn’t agree more with you and so we’ve pitted them against each other in the age old battle of North v South!

First up are the Southern boys, Phil and Kevin.

Phil Reynolds

Ahead of the big showdown, what are you most looking forward to about welcoming the Northern boys down here?

Phil: I don’t get to see some of the Northern boys too much as I don’t play up North as much as I used to. So I’ll look forward to having a catch up with them.

Kevin: Welcoming them? I’ll be doing my best to make it as difficult as possible!

Why is the South better than the North?

Phil: I don’t really think you can say either is better. In London and the South we have some great clubs and promotions as they do up North. So I think things are pretty even.

Kevin: Because it’s more cultured and there’s more to experience.

Is there a noticeable difference in music styles down South to up North?

Phil: I would say that there was more hard house in the North and more hard trance in the South. The North has always loved it more banging.

Kevin: Everywhere has its preference but in general a good tune always goes down well no matter where it’s played.

Who’s your money on in the AvK head to head and why?

Phil: Dunno, but I wonder if it will end with a knockout!

Kevin: Alex because his music hits home more.

Kevin Energy

If you could have a hard dance showdown with anyone who would it be?

Phil: It would be someone like Technikal as we both play similar music and are good friends.

Kevin: Matt Damon.

Lots of boxers have pre-match warm ups. What’s your pre-performance ritual?

Phil: A few beers normally and sometimes a dance!!!!

Kevin: To take some time out to read the crowd and decide what the next vital tune should be.

Have you checked out the AvK showdown videos on Youtube yet? Have you made a showdown video to go on the AvK Youtube channel yet? If not why not!

Phil: I have been away in Argentina!!!!

OK, not a bad excuse…now it’s the turn of the Northern lads, Morgan & Kutski!

Ahead of the big showdown, what are you most looking forward to about your journey down South?

Morgan: Playing the main room at MoS for sure, can’t wait. Never been myself but heard some amazing things about the venue. So well looking forward to playing there.

Kutski: Toddington Services on the M1 southbound. I’m a connoisseur of the service stations on the UK motor network and this one is a peach! M&S Simply Food, WHSmiths, Costa and a BP garage to boot. It really is the highlight of the South of England.

Why is the North better than the South?

Morgan: Well you can get gravy on your chips up north so that’s why we win hands down.

Kutski: Firstly, we don’t moan when its cold, we have all the best soaps, there is less pollution, there are no congestion charges, taxis are cheaper, you can park, tap water tastes better, house prices are cheaper, we have scallies instead of chavs, we have the best football teams, we have the best rugby teams, pies, less expensive beer, smaller airports, easier girls… shall I go on?

Morgan

Is there a noticeable difference in music styles up North from down South?

Morgan: I think the North events like Goodgreef and Detox etc seem to present the more European hard style sound, where as the South is more hard dance orientated. Both North and South hold wicked parties though; really looking forward to heading back down South to play.

Kutski: I think the music tends to be harder up North! For example in London the UK hard trance scene and anthemic hard house will always go off, whereas if you went to Manchester / Middlesbrough / Newcastle etc, you’d get a better reaction hammering out anything from hardstyle to gabba in my experience!

Who’s your money on in the AvK head to head and why?

Morgan: Got to say Alex cause if I didn’t there’d be trouble I reckon.

Kutski: I’d have to side with my old mucker Mr. Kidd!! This is nothing against Whitters and has nothing to do with music or DJing ability, its purely based on the fact that Andy was born and bread a Northerner, before defecting down South. Upon doing so, he will no doubt have contracted the renowned “Southern Fairy” gene, which renders him weaker in battle!

If you could have a hard dance showdown with anyone who would it be?

Morgan: I reckon Mother Theresa would put up a good fight if she were still alive.

Kutski: Never really thought about! That’s kinda like picking a fight with someone on the scene, eh! If that were the case I’d probably go for a DJ with a physically smaller stature on the circuit so I stand more chance of beating them… possibly even one of the female DJ’s…

Lots of boxers have pre-match warm ups. What’s your pre-performance ritual?

Morgan: Plenty of sleep and 2 pot noodles usually do the trick.

Kutski: I usually pull the end off it if I have time. Exercises the fingers whilst relieving any pre gig stress!

Have you checked out the AvK showdown videos on Youtube yet? Have you made a showdown video yet? If not why not!

Morgan: I shall be making one this weekend. Got some funny ideas lined up so watch this space!

Kutski: Errrr… No. Personally I prefer to watch the video’s of the funny cats rather than all that male testosterone! Click click

Kutski
