Antiworld 'The Indoor Festival' - Review

Reported by Adam Symbiosis / Submitted 18-05-04 10:27

Antiworld and their offshoots Psygate and Teknoworld have come a long way since they stated with recent events being held at The Stratford Rex, The Fridge and Brixton Academy, so it was with high hopes of a great night we went to this months’ massive collaboration between the parties held at cavernous SeOne in London Bridge. Billed as the “Indoor Festival” and advertised with no less than 6 Live Pas and over 50 DJs the night was looking to be very messy indeed.

It finally kicked off for us just after eleven, though it had been open since 9 and following a quick wander around to establish a feel for each of the main areas, The Antiworld Theatre, Psygate Temple, Teknoworld Drome and Insomniacz Arena, we finally settled in the Antiworld Theatre for Tony Heron and his uplifting sound punctuated with some good tuntablism. It certainly gave a fresh edge to some old classics and we were soon pounding our spots.

With so much space available there were stalls aplenty, adding to the festival feel, with all kinds of weird and wonderful things to buy including mushrooms and laughing gas! The first time I had seen that on sale. Not only that but there was a food stall, a number of massage areas and enough open bars so that whatever one I went to I never waited long to be served. All they needed was a funfair somewhere in the middle to cap it off Big grin

Having got slightly confused by the signage, with a number of posters having arrows to the rooms pointing both left and right, we finally found the Freestyle room and the Chill Out area. Wanting a rest we sat down to listen to the dreamy beats being spun out in the chill out room, though like all the other rooms, the sound levels were a bit too high. You might say your in a club what do you expect, but it’s Monday now and I still feel as if I have cotton wool stuffed in my ears. I’ll have to remember my ear plugs next time!

After trying some laughing gas, we went to listen to Nuw Idol, AKA Michel Spiegel. I feel I’m never let down when I hear him play and think that with an amazing back catalogue and great new tracks, he always knows how to rock the crowd. Tune of the set for me was the amazing Bag Of Trix. Now to continue the hunt for a copy all of my own!

Straight after we made our way to the Freestyle room to hear Mattie C of Swamp play. Now hearing great stories from friends who go near religiously to the 414 for some unforgettable parties, I was really looking forward to his set only to find him standing around. I later found out that his time had been changed from 3am to 2am though, as he told me himself, he along with the punters hadn’t been told, a very sad situation indeed. Frown

Following that episode, Clodagh, fresh from the success of getting herself a set in Berlin, came on in the Freestyle room to show the (at first) small crowd why she is one of the best up and coming DJs playing the circuit today. Her techno influenced set sounded fresh and more importatly very distictive and by the end the room was full. It won’t be long before she is playing in the main rooms of clubs all over the country! As her set progressed more and more people filled the room and got dancing, it’s a shame the set was only an hour as it went to fast.

We finished off the night hearing some of K90s hard trance DJ set then getting a snatch of Kristian Vs Metaphase in the Psygate Temple before heading home to enjoy the sun. For a surreal end to the night – as we walked towards Tower Bridge to get the bus, we joined hundreds of women walking in the Playtex Moonwalk, a sponsored all night walk in your bra for Breast Cancer. As we got on to the bridge we could see the line of walkers stretching all the way down the river bank, very impressive and well done to the people doing it!

The indoor festival turned out to be a blast, with problems with the toilets at Lashed sorted out, unobtrusive security, great stalls and interesting and varied music. On the downside it was, as I said before, a little too loud, the signage could have been better as we might never have found the Freestyle and Chill Out rooms if we hadn’t have been shown and finally there was no grass to sit on or stars to look up at but now I’m just picking holes Big grin

A great production with lighting, decorations, pictures, video installations and more DJs than you can shake a stick at; if you missed this one make sure you get to the next one.

With thanks to Jumpin and nuttony for the use of their photos Thumbs up

Enjoyed the review. The best thing about an Antiworld party is the fact that it can be held in such a large "cavernous" venue like the SE1 but still retain it's underground roots. My highlights for the night were MARCO BAILEY and D.A.V.E The Drummer in the Teknoworld Drome! Wow!! That room rocked and the girls were definitely purving Mr. Marco Bailey. Also spent some time running between hard trance and hard house rooms due to excellent sets by Sol Ray, DJ Scot Project, K90, Karim and ILogik (who never lets me down). Also managed to catch some of Kristian and Metaphase who played some excellent driving psyche trance. Again, the production was faultless... thank you Antiworld crew!! Wink

What a good review of the party we all know & love as Antiworld Big grin Thumbs up Enjoy every Antiworld I go to & I love being part of the team Mmmwwah! Really don't know how the posters got 2 arrows on them as I only put one arrow on all of them. Someone must of done that to confuse everyone. Frown Sorry bout that. Smile

The Indoor Festivals are always good and hardly ever fail to get good reviews.
I did enjoy Fabry and Mad Theo in the Antiworld room, and Marco bailey did live up to his reputation in the Technoworld room. It looks like techno is becoming increasingly popular due to artists making things more interesting using three/four decks two mixers etc. There aren't DJs in any other genre or event doing things like that apart from the championship circuits, which is just a completely different style anyway. Techno is just constantly pushing the boundaries and is always evolving, i love it!

As for the directions, I shall get a map of the building drawn up to make sure everyone knows the layout of the building and to avoid any more confusion, there are different ways around the building and making this clear is a bit of a task.

It's always a pleasure being at the Indoor Festival, and the crew are constantly looking for ways to improve and create a unique and enjoyable experience every time.
