Slinky @ The Opera House, Bournemouth

I had two options ahead of me 1. The HarderFaster annual bash on the Saturday, which means partying with you brilliant people or 2. Going to Slinky on the Friday to see BK and the Tidy boys. It was a bloody hard choice to make and I know your thinking the HarderFaster event would be the first choice in my dilemma. But Slinky is so special to me, 1. It was the first place I experienced Hard House back in 97, 2. First place I really got off my rocker! 3. I really Love this place (I’m not the only one who feels this way as every time I visit its always full to the rafters.

I travelled up on the slinky fun buses, which departs from my hometown (which is always handy!). When you get 50+ revellers including myself on one of the 3 buses, who have spent the last 2 hours or in my case all day in the boozer you are going to be dying to use the toilet! Every time I travelled to Slinky using this form of transport it always had a toilet on board – but on this occasion NO BLOODY TOILET, within 40 minutes every one was red faced and tying their legs in knots as they were desperate including me. Now when you tell the driver to pull over at the nearest stop you don’t expect him to ignore you and don’t stop for 20 more minutes, well this one did – he stopped finally! – Every one poured out of the coach door in a mad hurry, it looked like the end sequence from a Benny Hill show. Now that was that, 10 minutes further on and we were there, I’m sure he did it just to wind us up!

Slinky does its damndiest to give you a full on light and sound experience to dazzle both eyes and ears. The sound system is something to write home about, crystal clear and heart crushingly loud (but to stand at the foot of the stage – wow!). The lighting rig is definitely something else, Frantic style if you know what I mean. It’s an amazing feeling sitting on the balcony as the lasers go mental showering the room with thousands of beams, lighting up every nook and cranny. Slinky have put a lot into decoration, it looks very classy. There was only one down side to the night – bit hot (It is the summer but they could have turned the cooler up a bit), I felt it when I went into the VIP bar, which had the air conditioning, turned right up which was a god send for me. I’m sure I saw a penguin and Polar Bear at the bar – hang on did I just type that?

Now as I said before I travelled up on the Slinky Bus – which gets you to the event roughly half way through the first DJ’s set (about 10ish). Which after sorting out jackets and you getting your first set of drinks and other bits sorted your getting near the end of that set. So apologies for not mentioning it in this write up. Now I think I heard BK play more times than I saw any DJ play last year – a bit of an over load really, this year I only saw him play at Recoverworld which I didn’t rate (not the event, the set). But let me say this, he turned everything up a notch this time, as I’ve never seen a crowd burn rubber on the dance floor as they did when BK produced seamless mix after seamless mix. Yes Revolution turned the crowd into a screaming frenzy, yet again, its always good to see. After BK were the Tidy Boys – I was well on my way at this stage so I positioned my self in the middle of the balcony area and I was dazzled by both Light and sound from the Tidy Boys. They were bloody amazing and some real fresh tunes – which while I’m typing this I can’t put my finger on their names (I know how the tunes go though, and as this isn’t Stars in Their Eyes I wont relay them to you!). Out of the two sets BK rocked the joint but I personally really enjoyed the Tidy Boys set. I’ve been clubbing all over, North and South of the border this half of the year so far, but this event beats them all – without fail.

ALL AT SLINKY THANK YOU – ESPECIALLY TO CLARE for a great night yet again!
