On 12th March Pacha London continues it’s series Fathers of House, celebrating global house music heroes from past and present this month welcoming one of the UK’s most instrumental DJ’s and Producers in his first London club appearance in over 5 years, Mike Pickering. After school, Pickering worked in a fish factory and engineering warehouse, becoming a big fan of northern soul movement that captivated the north for most of the 80’s. Developing his musical career he played saxophone and sang for mid-80s indie/dance forerunners Quando Quango until his DJ career began. As a resident at the Haçienda Mike provide the acid soundtrack to Graham’s vocals with driving Friday’s Nude night. Taking influences from his love of Northern Soul and Hip Hop his electronic sound track earned him the title from The Face magazine as "England's most revered DJ". In his role as Factory's A&R representative he also had the distinction of booking the Smiths for their first Manchester gig, and signing both James and the Happy Mondays revolutionising the UK music scene. After leaving Factory he became a junior director at Deconstruction Records, to whom he brought Black Box and Guru Josh, the label's two most important early successes. He also provided Deconstruction with North: The Sound Of The Dance Underground, cited by many as the first UK house music compilation. Also the founder member and songwriter for M People - the M standing for his first name - who also record for Deconstruction. The band was formed by ex-Hot! House vocalist Heather Small and Paul Heard formerly of Orange Juice and Working Week. Since the mid nineties Mike has lived in Southern France but now he is back in an A&R role for BMG and we are proud to welcome him to the decks at Pacha London!
In the funky room The Filthy House Sessions return to deliver the whole filth!
