Music Style: | Anything really - I do really love good, dirty, groovey progressive. However also just love DJing and making people boogie whether i'm playing House or Prog or Trance or HD. | From: | Tauranga Moana, Aotearoa..... Tauranga, New Zealand | Date of birth: | oh damn - 20th February OneThousandNineHundred&SixtySix. Makes me a Pisces and a Fire Horse | Residencies: | Freelancing at the moment | Management Agency: | waiting for that call - they all must have enough NZ dj's on their books for now. I have patience. | Bookings Contact: | Email - deannzdj@yahoo.com / Mob - (+44) (0)7791853925 | No. of records: | At home - I left behind at least 6-7000 Records and cds. Here, since I had to start again ...at least 1000 by now. | Started playing: | At the tender age of 15 in 1981, started Club DJing when i was 20 yrs old | All time top 3 tunes: | Vega - PvD, Emerald - Bedrock, Cloudbrake - Phil K & Habersham | Website: | http://www.myspace.com/house_of_hoki and also
http://www.livejournal.com/users/djhoki/ | Signed to: | .... ummm .. still gotta get my pilots license to be able to fly any of those Music programmes - so i can get my ass signed one day !! | Sample set: | not yet .... well not online anyway. | Worst DJing moment: | Breaking my finger while throwing out an obnoxiously drunk punter who kept on hitting my decks. As we tussled downstairs in the main bar. my finger got cught in his shirt and twisted and broke. I didnt realise this until after i ran back upstairs and mixed in my next tune, then the pain hit me. I spent the rest of the night holding a small glass tumbler full of ice with my finger inside of it. | Would most like to play: | For Zouk - Singapore / Womb - Japan / Bedrock / World Party - USA / Ultrafest - USA / Burning Man - USA / Voodoo - USA / | Most enjoyable set you've played: | In 2000, in NZ, a promotion took over the ground floor and main bar for a HD event - i chose to play upstairs on the main dancefloor and make it a chill out room. I started with room full of chairs, tables and couches and was playing real mellow prog trance, deep house and electronic oddities at about 125bpm. I was so concentrating on getting what i wanted just right that i wasnt really paying attention to what the crowd was doing - as it was meant to be just a chilled, relaxed area to kinda rest in for a while before heading back to the action. When i did finally, after an hour or so, have a good look, the entire collection of chairs, tables and couches had been shifted behind the Bar and the entire floor was rammed!!! I didnt know what to say, i just smiled and kept working ...... all we used for lighting the entire night (7 hours) was tea light candles and a UV Cannon. The entire floor stayed full until the end ... and i got the biggest round of applause i had ever had - it was then i noticed that the owner, the promoter and the entire staff had shut up shop downstairs and had been dancing on the side for about an hour. I was kinda humbled and proud at the same time. I never went above 132 bpm all nite long and the music moved House to Prog Trance to Deep House to Deep Trance to Electronica to Deep Funky Chill ...... it proved to me that it wasnt about the drugs or the NAME DJ or the Promotion, it was about the MUSIC and the pride and passion i out into that performance .... oh and also, the entire set was not planned - just a lot of music waiting for me to use ... and i hope i would use it well - i think i did. | When you're not DJing you're: | Reading / Mixing / Walking / Window Shopping / Talking / Surfing (Net) / Cooking / Sleeping / Working | Favourite DJ: | whew - where to start? Too many people, too many genres | Favourite Venue: | Roma - New Zealand | Favourite Promotion: | Bedrock | Favourite Producer: | Jake Childs | Favourite Label: | Currently AnjunaBeats for Trance, Thrust for dirty tribal | Biggest Influence: | Terry Gabb, Grant Kearney, Andy Vann, Roger Perry, Kevstar, Smallfish | Drink: | Red Bull / Coffee / Coca Cola / Volvik water | Non-music pastime: | Reading / dvds / net | Words of wisdom: | Just because you can, doesn't mean you should ! |
