Chart Return for Alex Buck

A long overdue chart, so there's a few tunes in here been doing the rounds for a month or three. All good stuff though, I promise....
1. Gleave “Fire Devil” Detox
This is just pure 100% unadulterated filth! No home should be without a copy of this. Heard this at Turnmills a couple of weeks ago and it went down a storm. My charts are generally in no particular order but this holds the number 1 spot for good reason. Dirty, filthy beast of a tune.
2. Temple One “Forever Searching” Enhanced
Not new or upfront - just a beautiful trance tune. Hammered by Paul Van Dyk and for good reason too! I played this at Planet Angel and it went down as well as I thought it would. There are 3 mixes in the release but as is usually the case, I think the original mix is the best.
3. Vibrasphere “Floating Free” (RPO Remix) Tribal Vision
This has been my favourite prog tune for a while now. Prog the way I like it, driving with a bit of bite and, in this case, a bit of an electro influence. RPO is a good place to start if you want more of this kind of material. He must produce about a tune a day which means that some of his productions are quite samey, but bide your time and a few gems can be found.
4. Koris vs Djule Pres. K & D “Green Spirit” (Original Mix) Unleashed
Probably not the right tempo for most trance DJ’s sets but if you need an uplifting track at 135BPM then I think this is a real winner. The Static Blue remix ups the tempo but I think the original mix is much more subtle and creditable.
5. Substate “Release” Joyride
I heard this on Paul Van Dyk’s DJ Mag cover CD about a year ago and have been waiting for the release ever since. Finally released a few weeks ago it’s a product of the Kidd brothers paired with the ever consistent Rob Stevenson (Activa). Definitely towards the tougher end of trance that I’d buy but it’s got a single brilliant, uplifting breakdown is perfect for that 2-3am set (if I ever get one!).
6. 68 Beats “Replay The Night” (Gabriel & Dresden Remix) Juicy
On a slightly different tip to the rest of the tunes in this chart, this release caught my attention for one reason only – the rather hit and miss work Gabriel & Dresden. The other mixes are very much on a house tip, but the Gabriel & Dresden remix sits precariously on the house/progressive fence. The low key vocal and bleepy melody is a bit odd but for me that makes it the sort of track that makes you wander up to the DJ and find out what it is. Try it, you might like it.
7. Digital Nature & Manuel Le Saux “Overwings” (Original Mix) Camouflage
This is driving, uplifting trance at it’s very best. My pick is the original mix but if pure hands in the air goodness is what you’re after then try the Michael Angelo & Jim remix. If this release is your cup of tea then I can highly recommend you try James Wandii - Kinetik Carper (Manuel Le Saux presents CO3 remix and Digital Nature & Manuel Le Saux – Absolute. Looks like there’s another half a dozen or so original productions, collabs and remixes on their way too. Very much looking forward to hearing more from this fella.
8. Mikka Leinonen “Heavy Silence” Monster Tunes
This is from the new Monster Sampler Series 3 track EP and up to Mikka’s usual high standards of melodic trance. This is not groundbreaking stuff but at least tries something other than the obvious formula – and that’s good enough for me. If you like this, go and grab Mikka Leinonen – Illusion on Total Digital.
9. Adrian Ivan “Before Sunset” (Niklas Harding Remix/Yanave Remix) Well Mixed
A mind boggling 6 mixes on offer here from what I believe is an offshoot of Bonzai. Here I’ve picked out my two favourite mixes. Niklas Harding’s mix is quite proggy but the breakdown is quite uplifting so it’s right up my street. The Yanave mix is altogether a different beast – much tougher but again with the breakdown to bring a smile to your face.
10. Majai “Lightwave” (Airbase Dub Mix) Monster Pure
A new name to me but apparently an American producer with vocal talent from a Belarusian. Again, a number of remixes on offer but as I am not keen on the rather obvious vocals about “the shining sun” and other such nonsense, I’ve gone for the dub. This is 3am territory – the breakdown lingers on forever. Good stuff!
Head over to www.alex-buck.com for my July mix download featuring a number of the above listed tracks.
