Chart Return for Alex Buck

February 2007 Chart

January's been a pretty average month for trance and progressive releases, but there's some decent stuff out there if you hunt it down. Here's a few I found:

1. Pax Royale "There’s Always Music" (Signalrunners Dub Mix) Fraction
Just released on new label Fraction, this is one to really get the crowd rocking. Electro tinged trance at its finest and a hook that is simple yet relentless. Signalrunners provide the pick of the remix package, with the Dub just a shade more creditable than the Vocal mix.

2. Sly One "House Of Muzik" (Jurrane's Distance To Houston Remix) SixThirty
Now then, the first 5 minutes of this track were not quite what I was expecting. It rolls, bounces and grinds along at a nice chugging pace, building with snarly, squelchy stabs. Then, eventually, we’re treated to a lovely breakdown that just makes you grin from ear to ear. Jurrane turns his hand to a more progressive sound and he’s got it spot on. Can’t wait to play this on a big sound system.

3. Shiloh vs Luke Chable Feat. 3 Colours & Hawk "Oz Morning Dust" (Chris Chambers Bootleg Mix)
A mash-up using one of the best progressive tunes from 2006 - Shiloh vs Luke Chable “Oz”. After intro melodies supplied by Morning Dust, the track blends subtly with the unmistakeable sounds of Oz and keeps pretty much all the original elements. Not often you hear a bootleg of a progressive tune but this proves that mash-ups aren’t all crap.

4. Solar Movement "Under The Sun" Conspiracy
I’m a big fan of the output from Conspiracy. Here label co-owner Rob Stevenson (Activa) dons his Solar Movement hat for 3 tracks oozing with trancey goodness. Under The Sun is the track that seems to be getting most plays, but don’t overlook Close Your Eyes and Liana, which are well worth checking out. Catch an Activa DJ set at Vaccine in March – you’re in for a treat.

5. DJ Flux "Stone Henge" FiveAM
Released as part of a Winter Sampler 4-tracker, I heard this track a few months back and have been trying to find out about it ever since. FiveAM seem to be on a hectic release schedule at the moment and the output is hit and miss if you ask me. This, however, is the sort of trance I hunt down – not afraid to be a little bit different; uplifting without reaching for the obvious cheese button.

6. Lange presents Firewall featuring Jav D "Looking Too Deep" Coldharbour
I’m a bit late latching on to this one and think I dismissed it on first listen, but I’m glad I went back to it. The break takes about 3 minutes to eventually unfold but it’s well worth the wait. Unfortunately “Lange presents Firewall featuring Jav D” gets the award for most silly artist acknowledgement of the year.

7. Kai Del Noi "Beyond Doubt" Conspiracy
No doubt everyone will subconsciously migrate towards the Sean Tyas remix and whilst I’m not suggesting it’s not a great remix, I’m just more at home with the original mix. This is feel-good trance, lush strings and a real builder of a break that rises and rises. Conspiracy do it again and again.

8. Solarscape "Burning Daylight" Solarscape
Not quite sure what it is I like about this track. It’s certainly not something that would make you rush up to the DJ to find out what it was. Anyway, it will fit quite well in to a progressive or trance set and has a slightly dirty element to it that will make you dance - I promise.

9. San & Sebastian Moore "Night Eyes" (Original Mix/Niklas Harding & Anders Mikkelsen presents Blackout Remix) Fektive
Markus Buhmann has already done a review of this release on HF so I’m not going to repeat what’s already been penned. Markus’ review is spot on and I’d agree the original mix is a belter of a warm up tune. Niklas Harding is bang on form at the moment and his remix will prove a winner with trancers and tech-trancers alike.

10. Kenidel Lopez "Heaven’s Caliber" (Thomas Datt Mix) Eve
Eve Records (Recoverworld) spring back to life and a pretty tasty offering it is too. Like Niklas Harding, Thomas Datt has a knack of turning out extremely worthy remixes. This throbs with energy from start to finish and has a heavenly ‘reach for the lasers’ breakdown. Apparently this is a few years old but must have been missed first time around. Thankfully it’s now got the release it deserves.
